Disability and Dyslexia Service

Information, Support and Guidance

The staff within the Disability and Dyslexia Service provide information, guidance and support to students with diagnosed disabilities and specific learning differences, e.g. dyslexia and students with mental health issues.

This includes assistance with applying for a Disabled Students' Allowances and support for those adjusting to a recent diagnosis of a disability or specific learning difference.  We can also support some students with short-term conditions, e.g. making examination arrangements for students with broken limbs, or who are pregnant.

As part of QMUL’s employability remit, the Disability and Dyslexia Service work with students to develop independent coping strategies to ensure that they are competitive in the job market, as well as enabling them to obtain a degree commensurate with their underlying ability.

If you are classed as a UK Home Student you will probably be eligible to apply to the Disabled Students' Allowances (DSA) to cover the cost of additional equipment or support.  This non means-tested allowance is available to full-time and part-time students, both undergraduate and postgraduate.

International students should check with their school, college or local government agency to identify if additional funding exists to help pay for equipment or support.

QMUL's Disability and Dyslexia Service staff will try to help students identify sources of funding to cover the cost of the specialist support.
